Coastal protective strips (CPS) and water protection zones are important in protecting water and land resources in Ukraine from erosion, flooding, and other negative environmental processes. Although prior research has emphasized hydrodynamic impacts and engineering or biotic stabilization measures, little attention has been paid to the methodological accuracy of delineating CPS boundaries as required by Ukrainian law.by Ukrainian legislation. This study proposes a geodetic methodology to determine CPS widths using topographic and cartographic sources at scales of 1:10,000 to 1:5,000. The method yields boundary determinations with an approximate accuracy of 4–5 meters. The approach was tested on Lake Synevyr in the Carpathian region, demonstrating its practical applicability for environmental protection, land-use planning, and compliance with regulatory standards. Results improve precision, transparency, and legal certainty in establishing CPS boundaries, with implications for environmental protection, land-use planning, and regulatory compliance.
