ABSTRACT

This article examines the extent to which the Bandung Smart City Master Plan (2018-2023) promotes urban sustainability and resilience. As urbanization accelerates, cities face significant challenges, including traffic congestion, inadequate public services, and environmental degradation. The Bandung Smart City initiative addresses these issues by integrating technology and innovative governance strategies across six key dimensions: governance, branding, economy, living, society, and environment. This study uses qualitative analysis through a document study and thematic analysis to assess the effectiveness of the implemented strategies and their impact on urban sustainability. The qualitative analysis in this smart city master plan study focuses on an in-depth understanding of the city's conditions, needs, and potential from a non-numerical perspective. The findings reveal that while the smart city initiatives have made strides in enhancing public transportation, promoting electric vehicles, and improving public spaces, challenges remain in achieving inclusivity and comprehensive urban resilience. The research highlights the importance of aligning smart city objectives with measurable outcomes to ensure long-term sustainability. This study underscores the need for continuous improvement in smart city planning and implementation, advocating for a more integrated approach that considers the diverse needs of urban populations. The insights gained from this evaluation contribute to the broader discourse on smart city development and its role in shaping sustainable urban futures.
