ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to assess the distribution and potential of tourism resources in Kyrgyzstan within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Utilizing geospatial analysis, nearest neighbor analysis (NNA), and geographic concentration index, the study reveals the concentration of various types of tourism resources across Kyrgyzstan's regions. Natural resources such as geological landscapes and water bodies are found to be dispersed, with significant concentrations in Chuy and Issyk-Kul regions. Cultural and religious landscapes, on the other hand, are highly clustered in Bishkek and Osh. The study identifies key strengths, such as Kyrgyzstan's rich and diverse tourism resources, but also highlights weaknesses including infrastructure limitations and language barriers. Opportunities arise from the deepening China-Kyrgyzstan relations under the BRI, while threats include potential environmental pressures and over-commercialization. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of Kyrgyzstan's tourism landscape, offering actionable insights for leveraging the BRI to enhance tourism development in the country.
