ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES

PROCESSING CHARGES

Publishing is not without costs. The journals of The Grassroots Institute defray those costs from article-processing charges (APCs), because they do not have subscription charges for its research content, believing instead that immediate, world-wide, barrier-free, to the full text of research articles is in the best interests of the scientific community. Like most other reputed serious publishers, The Grassroots Institute maintains high quality of service through an ‘author-pay’ model. As such, manuscripts that are accepted for publication following peer review incur a publishing fee. However, our APCs are low because we do not seek profit, just cover expenses.

The Grassroots Institute publishes all its journals in full open access, meaning unlimited use and reuse of articles, in addition to giving credit to the authors. All our articles are published under a Creative Commons (CC BY) license. Authors pay a one-time Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover the costs of peer review administration and management, rigorous editing of the paper, professional production of articles in PDF and other formats, and dissemination of published papers in various venues, in addition to other publishing functions. There are no charges for rejected articles, no submission charges, and no surcharges based on the length of an article, figures or supplementary data. Some items (Editorials, Corrections, Addendums, Retractions, Comments, etc.) are published free of charge.

Here is a breakdown of how our APCs are used. In calculating these values, we have followed recommendations from the Fair Open Access Alliance, an organization that promotes sustainable and transparent scholarly open access publishing. This also makes The Grassroots Institute fully compliant with the requirements of Plan S, a key funder initiative to promote Open Access.

When the APC is payable?

Charges are payable once the article has been accepted for publishing (i.e., following successful completion of our Preliminary Review or Peer Review Process). An invoice will be sent upon acceptance and must be paid within 30 days of the final invoice date.

WAIVER POLICY

The journals are fully open access and require Article Processing Charges (APCs) to be paid following the acceptance of paper. To help support researchers who are unable to meet some or all of the costs associated with publishing open access, The Grassroots Institute operates a transparent Waiver Policy.

Qualifying for a Full Waiver

To help support researchers in the low-income economies (as per the list of World Bank), our journals provide waiver on total Article Processing Charges (yet, minimum USD 28 will be charged) for manuscripts on the following conditions:

  1. All authors have listed their affiliation in low-income countries only.
  2. Author(s) do not have any funding required to cover the APC.
  3. Author(s) produce(s) a signed letter from author(s) suitable institutional representative, such as institutional Head of Department, confirming that payment will be made from author’s personal funds (all authors must provide a letter to this effect). OR Author(s) produce(s) a signed letter from the author(s) institution(s) confirming budget constraints, indicating their funding body does not cover publication charges or indicating the institutional budgets are severely impacted. This must be signed by the Institutional Head of Department clearly stating the budget constraints (all authors must provide a letter to this effect).

Keep the scan files (.jpeg) of above letter(s) ready before you proceed to payment process. In the Payment Process Step, you will be asked to upload the letters.

Offer of a Partial Waiver

On the discretion of Editors, a partial waiver can be given to the author/authors who are not eligible for the full waiver. To avail partial waiver, please contact the editors of the particular journal.

REFUND POLICY

The author assumes the responsibility for the payment, and no refunds will be issued. We do not issue refunds for APC once the payment is confirmed and paid. We recommend contacting us for assistance if you experience any issues making online payment. Let us clarify once again. The APC of the article is applicable for per paper one time which is not refundable. In the case of withdrawal of the paper from the journal, APC will not be refunded to the author.

PAYMENT PROCEDURE

The payment of APC can be done using Online Payment Gateway only. Only in a rare case of difficulty, we can provide our bank details to the author(s) for manual/digital bank transfer.

If you are ready to pay, please proceed further.
