ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES

PROCESSING CHARGES

Publishing is not without costs. The journals of The Grassroots Institute defray those costs from article-processing charges (APCs), because they do not have subscription charges for its research content, believing instead that immediate, world-wide, barrier-free, to the full text of research articles is in the best interests of the scientific community. Like most other reputed serious publishers, The Grassroots Institute maintains high quality of service through an ‘author-pay’ model. As such, manuscripts that are accepted for publication following peer review incur a publishing fee. However, our APCs are low because we do not seek profit, just cover expenses.

The Grassroots Institute publishes all its journals in full open access, meaning unlimited use and reuse of articles, in addition to giving credit to the authors. All our articles are published under a Creative Commons (CC BY) license. Authors pay a one-time Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover the costs of peer review administration and management, rigorous editing of the paper, professional production of articles in PDF and other formats, and dissemination of published papers in various venues, in addition to other publishing functions. There are no charges for rejected articles, no submission charges, and no surcharges based on the length of an article, figures or supplementary data. Some items (Editorials, Corrections, Addendums, Retractions, Comments, etc.) are published free of charge.

Here is a breakdown of how our APCs are used. In calculating these values, we have followed recommendations from the Fair Open Access Alliance, an organization that promotes sustainable and transparent scholarly open access publishing. This also makes The Grassroots Institute fully compliant with the requirements of Plan S, a key funder initiative to promote Open Access.

PREMIUM PUBLISHING

The premium publishing is an express and trusted fast-track publishing for valuable authors and reputed institutions. Unlike the popular term of ‘Premium Publishing’ used in advertising contexts, we are committed to depute/engage the extra manpower in handling the manuscripts thus received under this category of publishing. Various features of ‘Premium Publishing’ of the articles in our journals are as under:

To help support researchers who are unable to meet some or all of the costs associated with publishing open access, The Grassroots Institute operates a transparent Waiver Policy.

Qualifying for a Full Waiver

To help support researchers in the low-income economies (as per the list of World Bank), our journals provide waiver on total Article Processing Charges (yet, minimum USD 28 will be charged) for manuscripts on the following conditions:

This must be signed by the Institutional Head of Department clearly stating the budget constraints (all authors must provide a letter to this effect).

Keep the scan files (.jpeg) of above letter(s) ready before you proceed to payment process. In the Payment Process Step, you will be asked to upload the letters.
